Privacy policy
Last updated September 23, 2026.
Afterimage is a personal film and TV diary with optional social features, made by Cristopher Jimenez. This page explains what the app collects and why.
What we collect
- Account. When you sign in with Apple we receive a user identifier and, if you allow it, your name and email address. You can use Hide My Email. We use these only to create and identify your account.
- Your library. Ratings, rankings, watch history, watch dates, notes, watchlist, Lists, artwork choices, and preferences such as your region and streaming services. This is the point of the app, and it is stored on our servers so it follows you across devices.
- Profile and social activity. Your username, display name, bio, privacy setting, follows, follow requests, blocks, and the activity we show to people you allow, such as new ratings and rewatches.
- Search history. Recent searches, so we can show them back to you.
- Waitlist. If you enter your email on this site we store it so we can tell you when the app opens up, and nothing else.
We do not collect location, contacts, photos, advertising identifiers, or analytics about how you use the app. We do not use tracking, and we do not sell or share personal data with third parties for advertising.
Who can see what
- Notes, watchlist, exact watch dates, and full watch history are always private.
- Rankings and shared Lists are visible to signed-in people according to your profile setting and each List's audience. Private profiles require an approved follow.
- Blocking hides you and the other person from each other.
Services we rely on
- Apple for Sign in with Apple.
- Supabase for authentication and the database, hosted in the United States.
- Render for the application server, hosted in the United States.
- Vercel for this website.
- TMDB for film and TV metadata and artwork. Artwork loads directly from TMDB's image servers, which see your IP address. Afterimage uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Retention and deletion
Your data stays as long as your account exists. You can delete your account from Settings in the app. Deletion removes your library, profile, social connections, and sign-in. A record that the account existed is kept so a backup restore cannot bring it back.
Children
Afterimage is not directed at children under 13.
